Nicaragua having freedom of creed, is a country mainly Catholic and Marian. The 7 of December the celebration to the eve of the Immaculate Conception, is celebrated in the whole nation, being the day of Maria the 8 of December, which is national celebration. The celebration constitutes prayers and songs to the Virgin, giving "toast" to pilgrims who go to every altar to sing and pray. In almost all the homes there is an altar to the Virgin, adorned and displayed to the public and enough "brindis" (food, fruits, candy) for all the singers. The people go from altar to altar singing and praying, receiving full traditional toasts as they are gofios, small colorfull basquets filled with candy, fruits, pastelitos, sugar cane, sweet lemons etc. Fireworks are traditional to "open" the celebrations at 6:00 pm and "close" at midnight.
